Today is National Dance Day, so I thought it’d be a great time to share my favorite little dancin’ diva… my daughter, Lizzy!
Lizzy has been dancing since she was 16months old, starting in a Mom & Tots program at Carolina Dance Center here in Raleigh, NC. Dance was one of my favorite memories as a child and I wanted to share that with her… plus it was simply an awesome Mother/Daughter activity to do together. Over the years she has continued by her own choosing… each school year, each summer, year after year. And oh how she LOVES her dance!! As an infant she would literally bop away to the intro song of “So You Think You Can Dance” as she was curled up in my arms and is now thoroughly enjoying the ‘Next Generation’ version that they have this season. She already talks about & plans for her pointe shoes (yearS away) and oh how shes loves to freestyle & compose her own performances!! This year, as a 5yr old (actually turned 6 the weekend of these portraits), she took Tap/Jazz and Pre-Ballet. As such, she tapped her little heart out as a Sparkly Pink Kiss for Tap/Jazz and fluttered & twirled as a ballerina Fairy in the school’s annual storybook recital, which was of Peter Pan this year! Through her Kindergarten where she is in a Spanish Immersion program, she also had the opportunity to learn Salsa for their Spring Global Carnival. With all the other dancing she’s done & loved… I actually saw a whole new level of spark (& sass 😉 ) in her through this!!
From her determination to her sweetness to oh my, her awesomely sassy (in a cute way) sides… Lizzy’s personality just makes me smile & however biased, so genuinely proud to be her Mama!!! She can be rather shy in person until she gets to know you, much like myself. However, unlike me… her love of that spotlight & performing gives her the opportunity to share her personality with others through dance. Below are my favorites from each of Lizzy’s looks (also one of our first opportunities to use our new in studio backdrops & lights… I’m IN LOVE!!), as well as a few of my shots from each performance &/or dress rehearsal.
